Sophie is a publishing professional with experience of the corporate and independent sectors both domestic and international. She is skilled in business planning, management and development, and passionate about building professionalism and sales growth across the independent publishing sector. She is a regular public speaker at industry events.
Sophie is the Managing Director of Inpress, the sales and marketing agency for independent presses funded by Arts Council England. Inpress currently represent 60 brilliant independent publishers to the UK market, building their sales and working on business development; they have seen annual sales increase every year since she joined in 2013. Inpress also runs The Poetry Book Society (www.poetrybooks.co.uk), a membership organisation dedicated to the promotion of contemporary poetry. The PBS became part of Inpress in 2016 and since then has grown to a record number of members - lockdown has seen a huge surge in interest in poetry and there are some amazing writers being showcased through the PBS.
She is the Chair of northern writer development agency, The Writing Squad and a Trustee of Mslexia the magazine for women writers.
