The King's Engraver is inspired by the life story of a supremely talented man at the heart of a louche art world. William  is feted in both Georgian London and pre-revolutionary Paris. William weaves his way between fearful threats of invasion and the promise of fortunes to be made where art and money meet.

This is biographical historical fiction, the fruit of years of research, filling in the gaps between the evidence to draw out the emotional force that drives William towards a destiny that belies the promise of his glittering career.

About the Author

Chris' debut historical novel emerges out of a lifetime of re-creating the past.

First, as a writer, producer, director of over 50 international TV documentaries (from 'Who killed Alexander the Great?' to the 'Sci-Fi Files') and, more recently, in the creation of multi-award-winning, immersive experiences in the UK and Europe.

I conceive and script emotive and informative journeys through historic sites such as Bodmin Jail in Cornwall and Gozo's Cittadella in Malta.

Whatever the setting, I look for personal stories, with a resonance that still affects us today.
