Alison is a musician and violin teacher turned writer and illustrator of the Snippy The Crab adventure series of rhyming books. She loves working with children and writing for them. The narrative poems of Hilaire Belloc, Edward Lear, Lewis Carroll, Alfred Lord Tennyson were firm childhood favourites and her books are inspired by that magical and evocative mixture of rhyme propelled by the internal rhythms of meter, all channelled through an over-arching story - the forces that make up the best narrative poems.
Alison’s ability to draw was discovered by accident when she received an iPad two years ago and attempted to illustrate her verses. With no formal art training, she boldly submitted a picture to this year’s Illustrators’ Competition at The Bologna Children’s Book Fair and made it through the first cut to be one of their ‘Accepted Artists’ - an event which came as a delightful surprise.
Snippy The Crab is now on his 7th adventure and Alison is stacking up the illustrations - about 130 all done in lockdown. It’s been crazy and challenging but so much fun!
She spent her childhood in Devon and South Wales and has slowly migrated to the east of the UK. She has never lost her love of the seaside and all things beachy!
