If you’re keen to try this strategy for yourself then remember these key tips:
Review your digital footprint: Make it easy for podcast hosts to say Yes. Google yourself and review what comes up. Tidy up old accounts, review any public posts. Make sure you’re easily recognisable and that your website and social media platforms are up to date and fit your brand.
Create a One Sheet: Prepare an interactive PDF or simple Google document with your biography, topics you can discuss, example interview questions, contact information, social media links, headshot, and book cover (if applicable) to send along with your pitch.
Research Potential Podcasts: Compile a long list of possible podcasts to pitch by searching platforms like iTunes, Listen Notes, Google, leveraging personal connections to hosts, joining Facebook groups with hosts looking for guests.
Personalise Your Pitch: Tailor your pitches to podcasts. Listen to the podcast and reference what you enjoyed about it, mention what value you could add, and offer to share the episode with your own audience. Remember to follow up if you don’t hear back within a week.
Be a Great Guest: When you’re a podcast guest, focus on sharing stories and adding value, not pushing your book or service. You want to build the know, like and trust factors with listeners so they want to connect with you afterwards.
