Suresh Ariaratnam – Literary and Talent Agent, Owner of The Sprung Sultan Agency
Suresh has his own literary and talent agency called Sprung Sultan based in Bath, which he started in 2007. His clients include Lizzy Stewart, winner of a Waterstones Prize in 2017 for There’s A Tiger in the Garden and Jay Bernard winner of this year’s Ted Hughes Award for Surge: Side A.
He started his publishing life as a bookseller at Books etc, getting his first break as a manuscript reader at Michael Joseph. Prior to agenting he worked as a reader and editor for a range of agents and publishers including the Louise Greenberg Agency, Portobello Books, and Reaktion. As a reviewer and journalist, he has written for The Bookseller, The Economist, the TLS and The Guardian.
His authors have written on a range of subjects from the role of time in food (The Missing Ingredient – Jenny Linford) to what it means to be both black and European (Afropean – Johny Pitts) to the visual copyright archive of Clowns International (The Clown Egg Register – Luke Stephenson and Helen Champion).
