Karen Inglis – Children’s Book Author
Karen Inglis is a London-based children's author of picture books, chapter books and middle grade novels.
Her time travel mystery The Secret Lake, which was considered for adaptation by CBBC in 2015, is a consistent top seller at school events with both girls and boys. It hit Amazon UK’s Children’s Bestseller lists in 2018.
Time travel aside, Karen has been praised by teachers, librarians and reading charities for writing fun and fast-paced page-turners that engage keen and reluctant readers alike. Her illustrated chapter book Eeek! The Runaway Alien – about an alien who runs away to Earth for the World Cup – was used in the Get London Reading campaign.
In her early career, Karen was Director of Studies in an English Language school. She subsequently lived and worked in New York (within the media arm of the Foreign Office) and Oslo. On returning to London she worked in marketing and PR for the financial services industry until her sons were born. She then became as a freelance web content strategist and business writing trainer – consulting to government and the private sector for 20 years. She also started writing children’s books. Karen only takes on a small amount of ‘day job’ writing these days as she far prefers making up stories!
Karen is Children’s Advisor at the Alliance of Independent Authors and blogs about self-publishing at selfpublishingadventures.com
Her non-fiction book How to self-publish and market a children’s book is due out in July 2108.
